Getting Around, Poole Travel and Poole Transportation (Poole, Dorset, England)
Poole is situated in the centre of the south coast of Britain and is well served by public transport. The harbourside resort of Poole has a large bus station, a major station train with excellent connections throughout England, and Poole also has a busy port. Poole is situated nearby many other towns, cities and tourist attractions. Many visitors to Poole also travel outside of the town, and renting a car is often the best method of transport, with a number of major roads and motorways situated close to Poole.

The district of Poole is served by a number of major roads, dual-carriage ways and motorways. Although the traffic in and out of Poole can be heavy during peak commuting hours (07:30 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 18:00), driving in central Poole is fairly easy. Many tourists staying in the Poole area choose to rent cars and these are the best method of transport when travelling outside of Poole, to explore the surrounding countryside and nearby towns.
There are plenty of parking garages and off-street parking areas in Poole, and parking is available at Branksome beach, Broadstone, Civic Centre, Commercial Road, the Poole Dolphin Shopping Centre, Hamworthy Recreation, Jubilee Road, Lake Pier Hamworthy, Penn Hill, Poole Quay, Sandbanks, Station Approach, Whitecliff Recreation and in Poole town centre. Poole is well pedestrianized and one of the best ways to travel around Poole is by foot. This is an excellent way to see some of Poole's numerous tourist attractions, museums, galleries and landmarks. Finding your way around central Poole is very straightforward and many of Poole's major sights and attractions are within easy walking distance of each other.

Buses in Poole are heavily used by both locals and tourists alike and provide a particularly inexpensive way to travel in Poole and the surrounding areas. Poole buses and coaches travel to many other towns and cities nearby Poole, including Boscombe, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Wimborne. Bus passes are available for set periods and these can be particularly convenient when travelling in Poole and there are bus stops throughout Poole, with bus timetables and route information. Poole's bus station is situated in Poole town centre, close to Poole's Train Station.
Coaches in Poole are operated by National Express and regularly travel to the London Victoria Coach Station, London Heathrow Airport and also provide direct links to the Bristol, Birmingham, Brighton, Eastbourne, the Midlands, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Poole's train service provides good connections throughout England and there is a large train station situated in the centre of Poole. Operated by South West Trains, South Central Trains and Virgin Trains, regular trains travel to towns and cities including London Waterloo, which can be reached in just over one and a half hours, Basingstoke, Berkshire, Birmingham, Chichester, Devon, Dorchester, Edinburgh, Hampshire, Manchester, Oxford, Poole, Somerset, Southampton, Surrey, Wareham, Weymouth, Wiltshire, Worthing, Winchester and York. Advance seat reservations can be booked if required and cycle racks are also available outside of Poole Train Station.

Taxis in Poole are one of the most convenient ways to travel around the Poole area and are usually reasonably priced. They can be easily caught from taxi ranks in Poole town centre, at the Travel Interchange, outside of the main railway station and at Bournemouth International Airport. Poole has many licenced taxis, including private taxi vehicles, which are available 24 hours a day. Also in quieter areas of Poole, taxis can be ordered by telephone and there are a number of reputable taxi firms that your hotel can recommend. Additional taxi charges in Poole are often made for luggage, travel late at night, extra passengers and travel on public holidays.
Travel by Bicycle - Poole, England
Bicycles are a popular way to travel around recreational areas of Poole and much of Poole is generally very flat, although there are some steep hills on the outskirts of Poole. There are also numerous cycle trails and pathways throughout Poole, many of which are particularly scenic travelling along Poole Quay. Poole has a number of bicycle rental shops available in the Poole area.
